Marlins News

After their loss to the Phillies last night the Marlins and have dropped four in a row and are six games back in the Wild Card. In last night’s loss the bullpen performed well pitching five scoreless innings.

Giancarlo Stanton is one for his last 15 during the Marlins losing streak. It seems his home run streak has cooled off putting his desire to beat Roger Maris’ record in jeopardy.

There are plenty of ways to get a triple. Dee Gordon chose the path less travelled by when he reached third after his bunt in the bottom of the fifth.

Dillon Peters is making his major league debut tonight against the Phillies. According to MLB Pipeline Peters is the Marlins fourth best prospect. He spent some time on the DL this season after requiring surgery on his thumb but he’s pitched well between A and AA with a 7-3 and a 1.57 ERA.

Around the League

The Houston Astros have put themselves in the best position to win the World Series this year after acquiring Justin Verlander and Cameron Maybin from the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels.

The Angels bolstered their lineup by adding power hitting outfielder Justin Upton from the Tigers and slick fielding Brandon Phillips from the Braves.

Zack Greinke and the Diamondbacks handed the Dodgers their fifth loss in a row. With their loss against the Diamondbacks the Dodgers have been swept for the first time all season.

In a special moment yesterday after Joey Votto homered he high fived a young fan in the stands. He later gave the boy (who’s a cancer patient) a bat and jersey.
