The Marlins are to call up Dillon Peters imminently according to the Sun Sentinel and Miami Herald today. The lefty has shined brightly with double-A Jacksonville this season. After breaking his thumb and missing two months, he’s gone 6-2 with a 1.97 ERA and a WHIP of 0.96 over nine outings. Over 45 2⁄3 innings, Peters has given up 33 hits and 11 walks while fanning 40.
Peters, is currently ranked as the fourth best prospect in the Marlins system per MLB Pipeline. An undersized lefty at 5’9”, he can still bring it with a fastball in the low-mid 90s with sinking action. Notably, he has given up only one homer so far this season. He also features what scouts see as an above average curve ball and excellent command over both sides of the plate.
Here’s a nice feature from Fox Sports about Dillon from June.
This call up should be exciting for those who were impressed by the lefty this spring, while giving people another reason to watch the Fish down the stretch.
