Stanton robs his first home run of the season after a number of failed attempts

Not only does Giancarlo Stanton hit home runs he robs them too! Stanton’s catch secured the Marlins 7-0 shutout while denying Brian Goodwin of his would be 12th home run of the season.

Vance Worley tossed a gem, allowing two hits through seven innings while facing the minimum. Worley won his first game of the season with the help of 16 ground balls.

Christian Yelich put both his gold glove and silver slugger on display in the fifth inning.

Dee Gordon kicked things off last night with a triple extending his hitting streak to 13 games. He also went 3 for 4 with two stolen bases, bringing his season total to 40.

The Marlins rotation may be receiving some back up in the form of Wei-Yin Chen, Don Mattingly hopes to have him back sometime before the end of the season.

Around the League

The Dodgers finally lose a game courtesy of the Atlanta Braves. With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning Tyler Flowers hit a pinch-hit two run home run to seal it for the Bravos.

Tampa Bay hands Dallas Keuchel his first loss of the season. With their win last night Tampa is only a half game back from the wild card. Ex-Marlin Adeiny Hechavarria is still making gold glove plays for the Rays.

The Twins beat the Padres 5-2 behind Ervin Santana’s league leading fifth complete game. Santana went 1 for 3 at the plate helping his cause with a two run single.

The Tigers placed Justin Verlander on waivers after not being able to move him before the trade deadline. Verlander is allowed to remain on waivers until the waiver deadline on Aug. 31.
