Fish Farm Report: August 28th

Marlins’ farm system goes 0-4, and gets outscored 17-4 while Miami loses 11-2.

Lillie struck out four in three shutout innings for the Muckdogs.

RHPs Bryce Howe and Alberto Guerrero were assigned from the GCL Marlins to the Batavia Muckdogs. Batavia placed SS Samuel Castro and RHP Edward Cabrera on the 60-day DL.

New Orleans Baby Cakes 0, Oklahoma City Dodgers 2

Scott Copeland (9-11, 4.92) started and lost despite a quality start against the Dodgers (70-64) with 4,174 in attendance at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Baby Cakes (53-78) were limited to three hits over six innings by Wilmer Font (10-8, 3.42). Copeland put up a quality start, allowing just one run in seven innings on five hits. Severino Gonzalez struck out two and allowed a run in an inning of relief.

Offensively, Steve Lombardozzi, Christian Colon, and Grant Green each hit singles.

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 1, Biloxi Shuckers 7

Trevor Richards (5-6, 3.12) started and lost for the Shrimp (65-68) against the Shuckers (67-63), surrendering five runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk. He struck out four in five innings.

The Jumbo Shrimp allowed the Shuckers to score three in the second and four in the sixth before getting their run in the seventh on a Rodrigo Vigil RBI-groundout with 2,125 in attendance at MGM Park.

David Vidal hit a double, K.C. Serna, Braxton Lee, and Vigil each finished with a single.

Batavia Muckdogs 3, Mahoning Valley Scrappers 6 (11)

It took 11 innings in the first “seven-inning” game of the day, but the Scrappers (38-26) defeated the Muckdogs (27-37) by a 6-3 final.

After spotting the Scrappers a 1-0 first inning lead, the Dogs scored a run on a Demetrius Sims single in the second and two in the third on a Mathew Brooks single.

The Scrappers scored a run in the fifth and one in the seventh to tie it up at three, then Nolan Jones hit an RBI-single and Ulysses Cantu hit a two-RBI double in the 11th for the final 6-3 margin.

Batavia Muckdogs 0, Mahoning Valley Scrappers 2

Taylor Braley (1-2, 2.79) started and lost in the second game of the doubleheader between the Scrappers (39-26) and the Muckdogs (27-38). He allowed five hits for two earned runs while striking out five in four innings. Ryan Lillie came in to whiff four in three frames of relief, allowing just one hit and no walks.

The Muckdogs managed just four hits in front of 585 home fans at Dwyer Stadium. Marcos Rivera collected a pair of hits, Lazaro Alonso hit a double, and Denis Karas hit a single.

10:00AM - GCL Marlins (26-23) and GCL Cardinals (23-26) will play a doubleheader.

5:00PM - Lakeland Flying Tigers (58-63) host the Jupiter Hammerheads (64-64) in two games. The first will be started by Cody Poteet (3-7, 4.50).

7:00PM - The Grasshoppers (71-58) will host the Intimidators (66-65).

7:05PM - Remey Reed (2-4, 4.97) starts against the Scrappers.

7:35PM - Dillon Peters (6-2, 1.97) starts versus the Shuckers.

8:05PM - The Dodgers host the Baby Cakes. Mike Kickham (2-3, 5.35) gets the start for New Orleans.

Chris Corrigan pitched the first perfect game in team history as the Palm Beach Cardinals blanked the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 8-0. The 24-year-old right-hander registered nine strikeouts en route to the ninth perfecto in the 93-year history of the Florida State League and first since 2001.
