The Marlins have reinstated LHP Jarlin Garcia from the 10-day disabled list. To make room on the roster, RHP Javy Guerra has been designated for assignment.

Garcia was placed on the DL August 15 (retroactive to 8/12) with a left biceps strain, but the injury healed quickly, allowing him to rejoin the team after 10 days. Before the injury, Garcia posted a 3.34 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 39.1 innings.

The injury left the Marlins without a left-handed pitcher in the bullpen, but they were able to manage the absence, going 6-2 in that span.

Guerra, who was called up August 8 to take Chris O’Grady’s roster spot, pitched in Garcia’s bullpen spot while the lefty was on the mend. In 5.2 innings with the Marlins, Guerra allowed four earned runs on four hits while striking out five and walking five.

The 31-year-old righty will now pass through waivers and can stay in the Marlins organization if he is not claimed by another team. If he is out-righted to New Orleans, Guerra would be a solid candidate to be recalled when the rosters expand in September.

With a doubleheader against the Phillies on the schedule for Tuesday, the Marlins are allowed to bring up a 26th player for the day. Severino Gonzalez, the 24-year-old right-hander, is that player.

It will be Gonzalez’s first stint with the Marlins since being being acquired from the Phillies in January. Between Double-A and Triple-A this season, Gonzalez has posted a 4.58 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 74.2 innings. He has allowed less than two walks per nine innings, but his 5.9 K/9 has not been too impressive.

Gonzalez was last in the big leagues with the Phillies in 2016 when he appeared in 27 games. The righty pitched to a 5.60 ERA with 8.66 K/9 in 35.1 innings.
