Fish Farm Report: May 19th

“The Farm” went 2-1 with a rainout on Friday.

Marte allowed just two hits in five innings of work.

New Orleans Baby Cakes 1, Las Vegas 51s 2

A crowd of 11,807 were on hand to watch the visiting Las Vegas 51s (17-25) defeat the Baby Cakes (14-27), 2-1 at Shrine on Airline in Metarie, Louisiana.

Kelvin Marte took the hill for New Orleans, and gave up only two hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out four and earned a 66 GameScore by getting 49-of-76 pitches into the strike zone.

Moises Sierra went two-for-four for the Baby Cakes, accounting for 40% of the five hits in total that New Orleans collected for the contest. Chad Hinshaw, in his first at bat anywhere this season, got the only Cakes’ RBI in the fifth inning, knocking in Nick Noonan with a single.

Southern League

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 5, Mississippi Braves 4

Jacksonville (16-26) hosted the Mississippi Braves (22-20) with 7,437 on hand at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, and earned a 2-1 victory under the lights.

Jeff Locke struck out seven in 5 13 innings in his latest rehab start, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and zero walks. He earned no decision with a 50 GameScore, getting 64-of-87 pitches over the plate. Andy Beltre struck out both of the batters he faced in relief. H/T to LDogSr.

The Shrimp outhit the Braves, 11-to-8, led by multi hit games from Cal Towey, Alex Glenn, and Yefri Perez. Brian Anderson hit two singles and a double, scoring three times including the walkoff game winner in the victory. Glenn hit a two-out double for the game-winner.

Florida State League

Jupiter Hammerheads 0, Charlotte Stone Crabs 0, (1)

Jupiter (15-26) and Charlotte (19-21) went scoreless through one hitless inning before getting rained out. They’ll continue the game on Sunday as part of a double-header.

South Atlantic League

Greensboro Grasshoppers 6, Delmarva Shorebirds 3

First National Bank Field was the site for Greensboro’s (23-17) ninth win in their past 12 games. 6,473 were in attendance at the home win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (16-23).

Dylan Lee started and earned a 49 GameScore, allowing four hits and a walk over six innings. He allowed three earned runs and struck out four.

Jeff Nelson collected three singles, and Justin Twine had an RBI double.

Minor Leaguers of the Day

Kelvin Marte earned no decision, striking out four over five two-hit innings for the Baby Cakes.

Brian Anderson hit two singles and a double, scoring three runs for the victorious Jumbo Shrimp.

Transactions

The Baby Cakes placed Isaac Galloway on the seven-day DL, recieved LHP Kyle Lobstien and LHP Greg Nappo from Jacksonville, had CF Chad Hinshaw assigned, sent Vance Worley to Batavia, and recieved Mike Aviles from Miami.

Along with welcoming Jeff Locke, the Jumbo Shrimp recieved LHP Daniel Schlereth and RHP Andy Beltre from Jupiter, then sent RHP Tayron Guerrero down in their place.

Dustin Beggs joined Greensboro from Batavia, and the Grasshoppers sent Alejandro Mateo to Marlins extended spring training.

Coming Up

Michael Santos (3-0, 3.60) and the Charlotte Stone Crabs will face Jupiter’s Scott Squier (1-5, 5.36) at 3:05.

The Jumbo Shrimp host the Mississippi Braves at 6:05. Matt Tomshaw (4-1, 2.14) will face Wes Parsons (0-1, 3.65).

The Baby Cakes will send Adam Conley (0-1, 6.23) to the hill against Sean Gilmartin (0-1, 6.94) at 7PM.

Braxton Garrett (1-0, 0.93) will make his third start for Greensboro against Travis Seabrooke (1-2, 5.34) and the Delmarva Shorebirds at 7PM.
