Fish Farm Report: May 16th

Miami’s minor league affiliates posted a collective goose egg in action on Tuesday.

Triple-A

Pacific Coast League

New Orleans Baby Cakes 0, Salt Lake Bees 1

The Baby Cakes (13-25) could only muster a Matt Juengel single against the Salt Lake Bees (23-16) in a 1-0 loss with 2,959 in attendance at Shrine on Airline.

Scott Copeland (3-4, 4.72) pitched well, going 7 2/3 innings and allowing one run on seven hits and three walks while racking up six strikeouts. He earned a 69 GameScore. Hunter Cervenka allowed a walk and collected one whiff in 1 13 innings.

Opposing starter Parker Bridwell (2-0, 0.00) went seven innings for the Bees, striking out six and walking zero while striking out six and finishing with an 86 GameScore.

Double-A

Southern League

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 3, Mobile BayBears 4

The Jumbo Shrimp (15-24) had the road game against the BayBears (16-23) in hand going into the bottom of the ninth. Then 808 fans of the home team watched as relievers Kyle Lobstein and Ryan Beckman served up three runs to earn a walk off 4-3 victory.

Chris Mazza started and pitched well for Jacksonville, giving up four hits and two walks in six innings of work. He struck out four and allowed just one run. The Shrimp only totaled four base hits all game. David Vidal hit a single and a triple, Alex Glenn hit a double, and Yefri Perez hit a triple.

The game was all tied at one going into the eighth inning, when David Perez hit an RBI-triple to left. Vidal later scored an insurance run on a botched pickoff attempt by Jose Briceno.

In the bottom of the ninth, the BayBears got an RBI-single from Luis Tejada and a walkoff two-RBI single from Zach Gibbons.

Florida State League

Jupiter Hammerheads 6, Palm Beach Cardinals 10

The Palm Beach Cardinals (19-19) clobbered the Hammerheads (15-24) with 10 runs in the third and fourth innings to earn a 10-6 victory in front of 312 at Roger Dean Stadium.

Felipe Gonzalez (3-4, 5.06) lost by giving up six runs (three earned) on seven hits and four walks in just 3 13 innings. Ben Holmes came on to put out the fire, but instead of water sprayed gasoline on the flames. in 23 of an inning, he gave up four earned runs on five hits and a walk.

The Hammerheads collected 12 hits for the game. John Silviano hit two singles and a triple with two RBI and two runs scored. Kyle Barrett and Dustin Geiger each hit two singles, and Brian Schales hit a single and a double with two RBI to account for most of Jupiters offense.

Single-A

South Atlantic League

Greensboro Grasshoppers 1, Hickory Crawdads 6

Hickory (15-23) erupted for six runs in the first two innings to set down the Grasshoppers (21-17) in front of 3,025 at L.P. Frans Stadium by a 6-1 final count.

Jordan Holloway (0-1, 5.45) was the guilty party in this case. The Crawdads tagged him for all six runs in just 1 23 innings. He gave up four hits and three walks without collecting a strikeout. Marcus Crescentini, Ben Meyer, and Alejandro Mateo combined to go 6 13 scoreless innings in relief, allowing five hits, zero walks, and collecting six whiffs.

Boo Vazquez hit a single and a double, Jarett Rindfleisch hit two singles, and Mason Davis prevented a shutout in the ninth by hitting an RBI-single.

Minor Leaguers of the Day

Hammerheads right fielder John Silviano went three-for-five with a triple, two runs and two RBI in Jupiter’s 10-6 loss to the Cardinals.

Cakes’ starter Scott Copeland pitched 7 23 innings of one-run baseball, whiffing six. Unfortunately, he was tabbed with the tough luck, 1-0 loss to the Bees.
