Pitching Matchup

Team Pitcher 2016 ERA 2016 FIP 2017 ZiPS Projected ERA
NYM Zach Wheeler --- --- 4.18
MIA Wei-Yin Chen 4.96 4.50 3.73

Zack Wheeler was quite good when last we saw him, living up to his high draft status (6th overall in 2009). Then, an all too familiar story: Tommy John surgery followed by a lengthy recovery. Wheeler's was lengthier than most; he hasn't pitched in two full seasons. So what the Mets end up getting out of him after all that time is going to be quite interesting. I will be rooting for his success (but not the Mets).

Wei-Yin Chen was not the pitcher the Marlins were hoping they were bringing in last season. In 2017, they need him to be that guy more than ever. At least ZiPS seems to think we'll see some improvement.

Today's Lineups

MIAMI MARLINS NEW YORK METS
Dee Gordon - 2B Jose Reyes - 3B
A.J. Ellis - C Asdrubal Cabrera - SS
Christian Yelich - CF Yoenis Cespedes - LF
Giancarlo Stanton - RF Wilmer Flores - 1B
Justin Bour - 1B Curtis Granderson - CF
Marcell Ozuna - LF Neil Walker - 2B
Derek Dietrich - 3B Jay Bruce - RF
Adeiny Hechavarria - SS Rene Rivera - C
Wei-Yin Chen - LHP Zack Wheeler - RHP

AJ Ellis makes his Marlins debut, batting second because Mattingly seems to prefer not moving other guys from their normal spot in the lineup.

Question of the day:

Maybe you don't feel like ranking all 30 teams as I asked you to do earlier today. Give me your #1 least favorite team.
