New Orleans Baby Cakes

The Baby Cakes were off on Wednesday and will open a five-game set in Nashville on Thursday. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.

Double-A

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 4 @ Birmingham Barons 5

The Jumbo Shrimp (7-13) lost their second straight one run game to the Birmingham Barons (7-13) on Wednesday by a score of 5-4. The Shrimp have gone 2-8 on their current road trip. Jacksonville started off well with a two-run double by Brian Anderson in the first. Their rally was cut short by a line-drive 1-6-3 triple play.

Jacksonville fell behind 4-3, but tied it in the sixth when Taylor Ard added his second homer of the year.

However, the Barons took the lead in the bottom of the eighth, and held on to win the game. Jacksonville finally heads home

Daytona Tortugas 6 @ Jupiter Hammerheads 4

Gavin LaValley smashed a two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Daytona Tortugas (11-9) to a 6-4 win over the Hammerheads (10-10) in a back and forth affair.

Brad Haynal had two hits while Angel Reyes was the hitting star with three hits including a double and an RBI.

On the mound, 25-year old hurler Felipe Gonzales had a solid start for Jupiter, throwing 6 innings while giving up only two earned runs while striking out six.

The Hammerheads will play at home again on Thursday at 10:30 am EST.

Single-A

Greensboro Grasshoppers 4 @ Greenville Drive7

Greenville (13-7) completed a three-game sweep over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (9-11). Greenville was powered by a seventh inning which saw them scoring all seven of their runs, which included a three-run home run by Michael Gunsolus. All seven runs were charged to 2016 sixth round draft pick Sam Perez who comes out of Missouri State.

This came after six shutout innings by Hoppers starter Dylan Lee, a tenth round pick last year out of Fresno State.

Hoppers hitting was highlighted by a two-run homer by shortstop Garvis Lara.

The Grasshoppers travel to Asheville Thursday to face the Tourists. Game time is at 7:05 pm EST.
