The Marlins have officially announced that Dee Gordon is on his way out of Miami and heading to Seattle.
#Marlins acquire 3 players from Seattle – including 2 of Seattle’s top 7 prospects – in exchange for Dee Gordon; Welcome RHP @NickNeidert, INF Christopher Torres and RHP Robert Dugger. pic.twitter.com/0gtaavwcPz

It has been widely reported that the Marlins main objective is to slash payroll; some reports say to $90 Million or even $75 million. This is the first trade towards that objective.
The Mariners are taking on all $38M of Gordon’s contact, per a source.

Nick Neidert was the #2 prospect in the Mariners organization according to MLB Pipeline. The twitter reaction to the Marlins acquiring him was not exactly glowing.
M's top pitching prospect, but really doesn't projected to be front of rotation guy. Several scouts watched him last year at the deadline and said velo had dropped to 89-90 on fastball. https://t.co/W7VkRV0YwF

One scout on Neidert, who excelled in Class A Cal League last season before struggling at Double A: “Good arm. Low ceiling. No breaking ball.” Heading to #Marlins from #Mariners.

Just talked to a scout from a rival club who tracks #Mariners’ prospects about the three going to Miami: sees real upside in Torres, no real opinion on Dugger, says Mariners higher on Neidert than he is.

Nick Neidert is a good prospect. Saw him at 87-91 this year. Plus changeup, plus command. Fastball's movement, Neidert's 3/4s slot, and his cross-body delivery allow it - and his breaking ball - to play up against RHH. Think's he's a weird, reverse splits, #4 starter. A 50.

Hill: Of three prospects, "Neidert is probably the closest to the major leagues. We like the ceiling."

Chris Torres had an interesting clash with the Yankees that you may want to read about
New #Marlins prospect Chris Torres has an interesting little background ... https://t.co/2QaXk73HZm

You can find full scouting reports on both Neidert and Torres on MLB Pipeline
#Marlins receive RHP Nick Neidert, SS Christopher Torres and RHP Robert Dugger from #Mariners for Dee Gordon. Neidert & Torres are Nos. 2 & 7 on @Mariners Top 30 list: https://t.co/tTdITLVhUy pic.twitter.com/sgVjf62Pvo

Ken Rosenthal initially broke the news that Dee Gordon was traded to the Mariners

My initial reaction and the question pressing many out there; where would Dee play? He has only played second base and shortstop as a big leaguer, and the Mariners have two talented middle infielders in Robinson Cano and Jean Segura. Jim Bowden was the first to report that the Mariners are moving Dee to the outfield.
Dee Gordon will play CF for the #Mariners according to club source
— Jim Bowden (@Jim_BowdenSXM) December 7, 2017
Dee Gordon played 77 innings in CF in the Dominican WL 4 years ago.

The Marlins also gave up $1M in international slot money, as the Mariners look to land Shohei Ohtani
Source: as part of the Gordon deal, the Marlins also send $1M in international pool money to the Mariners.

Here is some of the fan reaction on twitter
Exactly. OK to live in a world where “salary dump” and “rebuilding the farm system” can co-exist. Previous Marlins ownership often did the former without the latter (because they asked for cash back in return or just wanted to dump as much salary as they can). https://t.co/xm5IPwZH9B

so after today 5? of the marlins top 30 will have acquired in two trades with the Mariners.
