The Dodgers ace makes his return today from a back injury that has sidelined him since all the way back on June 26th. Unfortunately for Kershaw and Los Angeles, opposing on the mound in the comfortable confines of Marlins Park will be Jose Fernandez.
Happy José Day:
Pitching Matchup
Team | Starter | ERA | FIP | 2016 ZIPS Projected ERA |
LAD | Clayton Kershaw | 1.79 | 1.67 | 1.92 |
MIA | José Fernàndez | 3.03 | 2.36 | 2.70 |
Kershaw was the NL Cy Young front runner before he went down with his injury. If 100%, he should be formidable today.
Fernàndez, of course, is no slouch himself, particularly in Miami where he's only lost twice in his career. It will be interesting to see, as he approaches an agreed upon innings limit, if the team decides to shut him down soon now that they are (largely) out of contention. If this be the end of your 2016 campaign, José, make it a memorable one.
Bold Prediction: In a grand duel, Marlins defeat Dodgers 1-0.
