Ichiro Suzuki wants to remain with the Miami Marlins, and the club will likely exercise his $2 million option for 2016, according to FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman.
Ichiro would like to play next year, and with the Marlins. Miami has a $2-million option on him. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them pick it up.
Suzuki has expressed interest in playing next season, according to Heyman.
Since joining the Marlins, Suzuki has proven to be a valuable addition to the clubhouse, bench and starting lineup.
Suzuki, who reached 3,000 career hits earlier this season, is batting .294/.363/.366 with 14 RBIs and 10 stolen bases this season. When Giancarlo Stanton was sidelined earlier this season, Suzuki received the majority of the starting time and had success.
Now without Stanton again, the Marlins have turned to Suzuki and Jeff Francoeur in right field.
If Stanton, Christian Yelich and Marcell Ozuna are all healthy entering 2017, Suzuki will likely serve as Miami’s fourth outfielder and a left-handed pinch hitter.
