Marlins News

The Marlins continued to live up to their billing as the worst offensive team in baseball over the last month as they dropped the opener to the Mets last night at Citi Field by the score of 2-1.

Ichiro managed to break out of his recent slump last night as he collected two hits, tying and then passing Wade Boggs’ career mark in the process.

Giancarlo Stanton’s recovery process is seemingly on schedule as he saw a specialist yesterday afternoon and was given the green light to do some light running and agility drills. The last week of the season is still a realistic timetable for Stanton’s return.

After being called up from the minors to take Andrew Cashner’s place in the rotation on Sunday, Justin Nicolino has been sent back down to Triple-A in a move where Miami recalled reliever Austin Brice.

A few days ago, the Marlins traded for veteran outfielder Jeff Francoeur to try and fill Stanton’s hole in the lineup. They traded away another prospect and two international draft slots to get the deal done and, considering the team’s recent lackluster performances, was the move worth it?

Miami’s record has been sub-par over the last week, but the pitching has not been to blame, as the team has wasted a string of stellar pitching performances.

Around the League

Mookie Betts has joined elite company in Red Sox history after hitting his 30th home run last night against the Rays.

Clayton Kershaw is set to pitch a simulated game today and could return to the mound in the next week if it goes well.

Josh Donaldson cranked three home runs for the first time in his career on Sunday, and then promptly added another to his season tally last night in Toronto’s 5-1 win over the Orioles.

Yasiel Puig has opened up about his experiences in the minor leagues during his recent demotion as his future with the Dodgers continues to be in doubt.

The Cardinals have placed starter Mike Leake on the 15-day DL as he deals with shingles.

Kris Bryant is having an incredible season, and he would be a unique MVP indeed.
