The trade deadline has come and gone, and the Marlins either like what they had going or couldn't get another deal done depending upon which narrative you want to go with. Now they are tasked with taking on one of baseball's great teams this season, the Chicago Cubs. This game will take place in Wrigley Field, where the Fish are 46-47 all time in the regular season, BUT, figured very famously into one of their most ignominious defeats there in 2003 which of course allowed the Marlins to move on and win the World Series that year. And we will never let you forget it, Cubs fans, no matter what happens from here.
Kyle Hendricks will be pitching for the World Series favorites du jour while the team that will actually be in the World Series this season will be represented by Adam Conley.
Pitching Match-up:
Team | Starter | ERA | FIP | 2016 ZIPS Projected ERA |
CHC | Kyle Hendricks | 2.39 | 3.35 | 3.60 |
MIA | Adam Conley | 3.38 | 3.79 | 3.94 |
Standard alignment with Bour still out.
Notes:
- Ichiro! is not in the lineup and sits at 2,998.
- The Cubs picked up reliever Joe Smith from the Angels today in exchange for pitcher Jesus Castillo. Smith will join the team tomorrow.
Bold Prediction: Marlins take game one, Ichiro logs hit number 2,999 in the seventh.
