2016 MLB All-Star Game: Fernando Rodney, Jose Fernandez make roster

MLB: Chicago Cubs at Miami Marlins Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Fernando Rodney, Jose Fernandez, A.J. Ramos and Marcell Ozuna will represent the Marlins in the All-Star Game, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday night.

Ozuna, after spending a significant amount of time in Triple-A last season, has had one of the best first halves among Marlins players. Over 80 games, he’s batting .310/.362/.546 with 17 home runs and 47 RBIs.

Ozuna will be competing in the contest for the first time in his career.

Fernandez has been dominant and anchored Miami’s rotation throughout the first half, pitching to a 2.69 ERA and 2.18 FIP over 100.1 innings. He could be a candidate to start the game for the National League, although his rough outing against the Braves last week might have hurt his chances.

Ramos has been dominant as Miami’s closer, recording 24 saves and pitching to a 2.45 ERA.

Rodney spent almost the entire first half with the Padres, pitching to a 0.31 ERA and not blowing a save in 17 opportunities. He’s pitched to a 6.00 ERA over three innings with the Marlins.

Ichiro Suzuki and J.T. Realmuto were also candidates to be named All-Stars.

The All-Star Game will start at 8:00 EST on July 5 and will be broadcast nationally on FOX.
