Miami Marlins trade rumors: Club could still consider adding reliever

Will Smith could be an option.

Even after adding Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea on Friday morning, the Marlins could still consider adding a left-handed reliever.

MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro reported the Marlins expressed interest in Mike Montgomery before he was traded to the Cubs and could be open to adding another relief option.

Miami doesn’t have many prospects to turn to after parting with Josh Naylor and Luis Castillo, but a deal for a lefty reliever could be in play.

While the Marlins upgraded their bullpen by acquiring Fernando Rodney from the Padres in June, Mike Dunn is the lone lefty Manager Don Mattingly has to turn to. However, the Marlins haven’t been known to consider left-handed specialists.

Milwaukee’s Will Smith could be an option, but since he is under club control for the foreseeable future, adding him might not be realistic.

Miami’s relievers have pitched to a 3.59 ERA, which ranks sixth in the National League.
