Miami Marlins trade rumors: Hector Santiago could be an option

Santiago might not be moved, though.

If the Angels opt to move Hector Santiago in advance of the non-waiver trade deadline, the Marlins could be interested, according to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick.

Crasnick adds the Marlins are “aiming their sights higher” at the moment, though that could change quickly.

Santiago could be an intriguing option for the Marlins, since he isn’t arbitration eligible until next season. Over 110.1 innings, he’s pitched to a 4.32 ERA and 4.91 FIP.

Although Santiago isn’t having much success this season, he’s pitched to a career 3.68 ERA and 4.60 FIP. The Marlins are known to be seeking a controllable starter but have also been connected to several rentals.

Los Angeles enters play Monday 12 games under five-hundred and might not be selling much before the deadline. As a result, the club could opt to keep Santiago on the roster.

Miami is also reportedly considering Jeremy Hellickson, Andrew Cashner, Ervin Santana, Sonny Gray and Jake Odorizzi, among others.
