Usually after being swept a team would love to face the team with that worst record in the National League. However the Marlins (41-37) have a losing against the Braves (26-52) and they need to rebound after bad series in Detroit in which the Marlins were outscored 17-8. In 2016 the Braves are 6-2 against the Marlins, but the Marlins did their last meeting June 22nd 3-0.
The four game series will start at Turner Field before moving to Fort Bragg in North Carolina for the Fourth of July weekend and for the first game in any professional sport played on an active military base. Pitching for the Braves tonight will be Mike Foltynewicz, coming back from the DL after bone spurs in his elbow, is being called back after one Triple A rehab start. The Marlins are sending Wei-Yin Chen, whose struggles on the season lead manager Don Mattingly to call on Tom Koehler to start last night versus Detroit. Despite two no decisions against the Braves Chen post in those two starts a 2.33 ERA, Chen will look to follow up strong last outing versus the Cubs.
Team | Pitcher | ERA | FIP | Zips Projected ERA |
MIA | Wei-Yin Chen | 5.00 | 4.63 | 3.66 |
ATL | Mike Folynewicz | 3.51 | 4.72 | 4.78 |
Still on the trail for three thousand hits in MLB Ichiro Suzuki comes into the game 12 hits short. The Marlins need Suzuki and Martin Prado bring their solid bats into the game because the Marlins need to score runs after having 14 hits but still being outscored by seven runs last night. Justin Bour is batting .348 against the Braves this year.
Both teams are coming into the series cold as the Braves were swept by the red hot Indians in their three game interleague series. The Marlins need a strong overall series before they head back home to welcome the Mets.
