Fish Farm Report: Cheating the Polygraph

Six of Miami's affiliates played on Saturday, with the good guys going 2-4.

New Orleans Zephyrs (36-39)

New Orleans was shutout by the Memphis Redbirds, 4-0 in action at AutoZone Park on Saturday.

Corey Baker (1-0, 0.00) struck out six and gave up four hits in 6.2 innings to earn the win for the Redbirds. Sam Tuivailala earned his 11th save of the year, striking out two in 1.1 innings. Justin Nicolino (3-3, 2.82) lost, striking out six in 6.1 innings and giving up two hits.

Memphis scored their first run on a Jose Martinez RBI-single in the third, then another on a Jacob Wilson solo homer (3) in the seventh. They tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth on a Randal Grichuk two-RBI single. Here's the milb.com recap.

Game two of the four-game Redbirds series is slated for 7:05 PM tomorrow. Dylan Axelrod (5-3, 3.95) gets the nod opposite big-league veteran Jerome Williams (3-1, 2.81).

Southern League (Double-A)

Jacksonville Suns (32-41)

Three games into their five-game series with the Mississippi Braves and the Suns have won twice, including a 6-5 decision on Saturday evening at Trustmark Park.

The Suns and the Braves both opened their respective scoring in the third, the Suns on a Asher Wojciechowski sacrifice bunt and the Braves on a Dian Toscano RBI-single.

In the top of the fifth, Austin Dean hit an RBI-single, JT Riddle had an RBI-double, and Chris Curley scored Dean on a single to give Jacksonville, 4-1. They piled on another run in the top of the sixth, on a Cam Maron RBI-single, his third hit of the game.

In the bottom half of the sixth, the Braves got one back to make the score 5-2 on a Dustin Peterson RBI-double, then the Suns scored in the seventh on a Ronnie Mitchell single.

The Braves scored three times in the bottom part of the seventh inning, on a Dian Toscano double play ball and RBI-doubles by Dansby Swanson and Dustin Peterson. MiLB.COM has the recap.

Wojciechowski (1-0, 2.53) earned his first win since joining the Marlins' organization by pitching six innings, striking out four, and allowing two earned runs on seven hits. Ryan Chaffee earned a save by pitching two scoreless innings. Rob Whalen (5-5, 2.43) lost for Mississippi, striking out six and giving up five runs on eight hits in six frames.

In roster news, OF Alex Glenn joined the team, RF Moises Sierra was added to the seven-day DL, and Ivan Pineyro joined the GCL Marlins on a rehab assignment.

Tomorrow at 6PM, the M-Braves and the Suns will play game four of the five-game series.

Florida State League (Single-A Advanced)

Jupiter Hammerheads (32-39)

The Fort Myers Miracle and the Hammerheads closed a three-game series with the Miracles earning two wins, this one by a 4-1 final score.

The Miracle started in the second, with a Edgar Corcino RBI-triple and a Trey Vavra RBI-single, then added a third run in the next inning on a Nick Gordon RBI-double.

Jupiter struck back in the bottom of the fifth with a Taylor Ard solo shot, his ninth of the season to draw the Hammerheads within two, but the Miracle added a run in the seventh on an Alex Perez RBI-single.

Jupiter's Jeff Brigham (1-5, 5.81) started and earned the loss, going four innings and giving up three earned runs on five hits, striking out four. Keaton Steele (3-6, 4.04) earned the victory for Fort Myers, allowing just one run over six innings.

Greensboro Grasshoppers (40-33)

The Hickory Crawdads authored a come-from-behind, 3-1 10-inning victory on Saturday night at NewBridge Bank Park.

Chris Paddack started for the Grasshoppers, and pitched five innings of no-hit, no-walk baseball, striking out nine batters, but Ben Meyer (1-3, 3.86) blew the save and earned the loss, giving up three runs over the ninth and 10th innings. Pedro Payano started and went six innings for Hickory, allowing one run on six hits while striking out eight. John Werner (2-2, 2.55) got the win by pitching 2.1 innings of hitless ball, and Omarlin Lopez earned his first save of the season.

After trading zeroes for five and a half innings, the Grasshoppers struck first when John Silviano (1) hit a solo line drive home run to right field. Hickory tied it with two outs in the ninth when Josh Altmann scored on a fielding error by third baseman Giovanny Alfonzo. The Crawdads scored twice in the 10th on a Connor McKay fielders' choice and a Eric Jenkins RBI single.

In a roster move, C John Silviano was assigned to the team after C Arturo Rodriguez was promoted to Jupiter.

Batavia Muckdogs (0-9)

The Muckdogs dropped a 10-4 decision to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Saturday evening.

The Muckdogs struck first, scoring four runs in the opening frame on an Isaiah White (1) grand slam, but it didn't last. The Scrappers capitalized on a Logan Ice (1) solo homer in the second, a two-RBI double by Alexis Pantoja in the third, and six runs in the fourth. They added another in the sixth for good measure.

Jose Diaz (0-2, 25.31) allowed eight earned runs in 3.2 innings to take the loss. For the Scrappers, Luis Jimenez went 1.1 innings and gave up four earned runs to grow his ERA to 10.38. Argenis Angulo (1-0, 0.00) went 2.1 innings and struck out three to earn the win.

The Muckdogs released SS Taylor Munden, RHP Cecil Tanner, and OF Alex Rodriguez, and welcomed RHP Brent Wheatley, LHP Trenton Hill, RHP Parker Bugg, LHP Shane Sawczak, RHP Sam Perez, RHP Chevis Hoover, OF Corey Bird, 1B Colby Lusignan, SS JJ Gould, OF Aaron Knapp, and 2B Mike Garzillo to the club.

RHP's Aneury Osoria, Humberto Mejia, RJ Peace, and Obed Diaz were sent down to the GCL Marlins.

Game two against the Scrappers is set for a 4:05PM first pitch tomorrow. The Muckdogs will send 21-year-old right-hander Travis Neubeck (0-0, 0.00) to the hill to face recently drafted Aaron Civale. Civale a third-round selectee of the Cleveland Indians, is making his first professional start.

Dominican Summer League (Rookie-FRL)

DSL Marlins (4-14)

The DSL Marlins defeated the DSL Athletics by a 6-2 final score in action on Saturday morning.

The A's struck first, scoring twice in the bottom of the second on a Martin De Los Santos groundout and a Luis Arcaya passed ball, but the Marlins struck back with a Wiklerman Rasquin sacrifice fly in the fifth and another by David Sacaria in the sixth to tie the score at two. In the eighth, the Marlins scored three runs, on a Jhon Garcia RBI-double, a Sacaria RBI-single, and a single by Ezequiel Alfonzo. They tacked on another run in the top of the ninth on a Jhon Garcia RBI-single for the 6-2 victory.

Anderson De Leon (1-1, 8.44) earned his first win of the season by pitching two hitless innings, and George Soriano got his second save of the year, striking out four in two innings. Dennis Herrera (0-1, 2.25) took the loss for the A's, giving up two runs (one earned) in the seventh inning.
