It was the Adam Conley show last night as he dominated the Braves, pitching a shutout, hopefully his strong start will be momentum for the Marlins as they prepare to welcome the best team in MLB. The Cubs were swept for the first time all year when the Cardinals swept them at Wrigley Field. Fortunately for the Marlins with Cubs ace Jake Arrieta pitching yesterday, taking his second loss of season in the Cubs 702 loss, they do not have to face Arrieta this series. Instead the Cubs are sending Jon Lester (9-3) who is looking to win his sixth straight start to mound. While Wei-Yin Chen (4-2) is getting the call for the Marlins tonight.
Team | Starter | ERA | FIP | Zips Projected ERA |
CHC | Jon Lester | 2.06 | ||
MIA | Wei-Yin Chen | 5.22 | 4.74 | 3.68 |
This is first time the Marlins and Cubs will face this season, they play one more series at Wrigley Field starting on August 1st. The Marlins and Cubs split the season series last year with each time winning three games, however the Cubs did take two of three from the Marlins in their last series. The Cubs are dealing with a few injuries, Dexter Fowler is on the DL with a hamstring injury, and Anthony Rizzo is dealing with a back injury. Regardless of injures the Cubs are still loaded with talent and the Marlins will a good game from a slumping Wei-Yin Chen to set the tone for the series.
Notes:
- Dating back to last season Marlins' closer A.J. Ramos has thirty two consecutive saves.
- Ichiro Suzuki is still seventeen hits away from three thousand hits.
- Because of Fowler's injury the Cubs called Albert Almora who is a Miami native.
Bold Prediction: Marlins sneak by the Cubs 5-4
