1st Inning
Top:
WeiYin Chen made short work of the Pirates to start the game with Harrison flying out, Andrew McCutchen pooped out, and Chen got David Freese to strike out swinging.
Bottom:
Ichiro Suzuki lead off for Marlins and he grounded out, Martin Prado went down swinging. While Christian Yelich singled and Giancaro Stanton was walked Justin Bour was unable to capitalize with a runner in scoring position when he grounded out.
2nd Inning
Top:
Wei-Yin Chen lost a bit of his control this inning but he managed to recover. Kang flied out to start, but things got away from Chen when he hit Cervelli with a pitch in the foot. Marte did ground out, but Cervelli advanced to second. Mercer was walked but Nicasio lined out to end the inning.
Bottom:
The Marlins got on the board this inning. J.T. Realmuto grounded out, Adeiny Hechevarria then blasted a triple to right field. Miguel Rojas sacrificed to pitcher leading Hechevarria to score Chen couldn;t sustain the scoring when grounded out. Marlins up 1-0.
3rd Inning
Top:
The Pirates attempted to respond and failed. Harrison filed out, McCutchen lined out, and Freese grounded out.
Bottom:
Another productive inning for the Marlins Suzuki lead things off with a single, Martin Prado flied out, and Christian Yelich singled advancing Suzuki to second. Stanton had been struggling lately and needed to deliver a big hit, Stanton doubled bringing out Suzuki and Yelich to second. Realmuto hit sacrifice fly to advance to base runner, which brought home Yelich. Hechevarria ending the inning for the Marlins when he lined out. Marlins are now up 3-0.
4th Inning
Top:
Chen took the Pirates down one, two, three this inning. Lang filed out, while Stewart and Marte struck out swinging.
Bottom:
Rojas fouled out, Chen still looking for his first MLB hit grounded out, but Suzuki continued his strong game with a double. Prado ended the inning when he struck out.
5th Inning
Top:
The Pirates bat stay asleep Mercer and Joyce filed out while Nicasio went down swinging.
The Marlins went down one, two, three. Yelich lined out, Stanton and Bour went down swinging
6th Inning
Top:
Harrison and McCutchen lined out while Freese struck out swinging.
Bottom:
The Marlins failed to produce anything. Realmuto was walked, Hechevarria lined out, Rojas filed out, and Chen grounded out.
7th Inning
Top:
Finally signs of life for the Pirates when Kang doubled, Stewart was walked causing Chen's day to be over Dustin McGowan relived him. With McGowan on the mound Marte lined out, Mercer fouled out. However Matt Joyce doubled bringing home Kang and Stewart. With score now 3-2 Marlins Polanco was intentionally walked and Harrison struck out to end the inning.
Bottom:
Hughes came on the relive Nicasio. Suzuki was safe off an error, Prado filed out, Yelich struck out, Stanton was walked, and Bour ending things when he grounded out.
8th Inning
Top:
Rodriguez doubled,, Freese was hit by a pitch. That was it for the Pirates though as Kang struck out and Stewart grounded into a double play.
Bottom:
Melancon relived Hughes, Realmuto then lined out, Hechevarria grounded out, and Rojas also lined out.
9th Inning
Top:
Kyle Barraclough came on for the supposed save but blew it. Although Marte grounded out to lead off the inning, Mercer was hit by a pitch (third time a Marlins pitcher hit a batter). Joyce did go down swinging but then Jaso singled bringing home Mercer and tying the game 3-3. Harrison was then walked and Jaso advanced to second, Rodriguez went down swinging to stop the damage.
Bottom:
Melancon was relived by Feliz. Marcell Ozuna came in to pinch hit for Barraclough and he lined out. Suzuki then lined out, Prado went down looking, and off to extras we go.
10 Inning
Top:
Nick Witgren relived Barraclough, the first batter he faced was Cole Figuroa who flied out. Kang also flied out and Chris Stewart was caught looking.
Bottom:
A.J. Schugel relived Feliz, up first for Schugel was Yelich who flied out, Stanton grounded out, while Chris Johnson went down looking.
11th Inning
Top:
Marte and Schugel struck out and Joyce lined out, it was a quick inning for the Pirates.
Bottom:
Realmuto struck out swinging, Hechevarria grounded out, and Rojas also went down swinging.
12th Inning
Top:
This proved to be the last chance for the Pirates but sadly Jaso grounded out, Harrison lined out, and Rodriguez grounded out.
Bottom:
Craig Gillespie hit fir Witgre, but he flied out. Suzuki was walked, Prado grounded into fielders choice with Suzuki out at second. Christian Yelich then came on for the walk off double! Suzuki scores Marlins win 4-3!!!
