Triple-A
New Orleans Zephyrs (31-32)
The Zephyrs faced the Round Rock Express in Texas and dropped a 4-2 decison. Chris Reed started for New Orleans, and pitched seven innings, allowing no walks and four hits while striking out four batters. He only allowed one earned run and took home a no-decision. Brady Shoemaker hit a solo home run in the loss, his first of the season. Trevor Adams won it with a three-run walkoff homer in the ninth for the Express. The series wraps up tomorrow at 8:05PM, live on MILB.COM.
Double-A
Jacksonville Suns (27-38)
Jacksonville beat the Mobile BayBears, 7-3 on the road. Cam Maron scored three runs, hitting a single, two doubles, and drawing a walk in the win. Brian Anderson also went deep for the Suns. Patrick Johnson earned the win, giving up three earned runs on three hits and three walks, striking out one BayBear. Tomorrow, the Suns will host the Biloxi Shuckers at 7:05PM, also live on MILB.COM.
Single-A (Advanced)
Jupiter Hammerheads (30-34)
Jupiter hosted the Daytona Tortugas, and earned a 7-4 loss a night after getting no-hit. First baseman Taylor Ard hit a three run shot (7) and drew a walk in the setback. Four different Hammerheads took the hill over the nine-inning contest, but none of them pitched more than three innings. Travis Ballew struck out three hitters in two innings of work, allowing a single hit and an unearned run. The Hammerheads will again host the Tortugas, tomorrow at 6:30PM.
Class-A
Greensboro Grasshoppers (35-30)
It took 14 innings, but the Grasshoppers won a come from behind, 6-5 walk-off win at home against the Asheville Tourists. Justin Twine, Angel Reyes, and Anfernee Seymour each had four hits in the win, highlighted by Seymour's walkoff RBI-double. Twine (1) and Aaron Blanton (3) each went yard for Greensboro. Jeff Kinley struck out five batters against one hit in three innings of relief. Before the game, the Grasshoppers activated Josh Naylor after his completed suspension and reassigned Kris Goodman to the low-A Batavia Muckdogs. Batavia will start play later this week in the short-season New York-Penn League. The Muckdogs released Miami's 2013 fourth-round pick, KJ Woods to make room.
Greensboro will host the Tourists again tomorrow early in the afternoon, at 12:30PM.
Rookie League
DSL Marlins (2-6)
The DSL Red Sox (1) defeated the lowest level of Marlins' baseball, 4-1 in early action. Hosnei Villalobos pitched 3.1 innings in relief, allowing two baserunners and striking out three Red Sox in the loss. The Marlins will host them again tomorrow at 10:30 AM EST, although I've been unable to find a feed anywhere.
Excepting the Rookie League action, all levels of Marlins' baseball is available on MILB.COM's network of radio broadcasts, through the Tune In app. Keep on checking back here at Fish Stripes for all your breaking Marlins news, whether it's during the season or not.
