Marlins News

Miami scored seven runs and batted around in the third inning of what would become a 13-4 pounding of the San Diego Padres. This overshadowed the worrying fact that Wei-Yin Chen gave up four home runs in six innings.

Whether it is an official accolade or not, Ichiro is now just one hit behind Pete Rose for the most professional hits in baseball history, if you include the 1,278 knocks he racked up over nine seasons in Japan.

Ichiro got the start in right field last night in favor of the slumping Giancarlo Stanton, who was given the day off.

In fact, Ichiro was spotted in the stands of Petco Park as well as on the field.

The win in San Diego has put the Marlins back on track after two disappointing series in a row, which ended with a shutout at the hands of the Diamondbacks.

Links covering Miami's first round pick of this year's draft, their first round pick from last year's draft, and Giancarlo Stanton's little victory can be found here.

Around the League

Max Scherzer struck out nine of the first ten Cubs he faced last night as he flirted with perfection, once again, in a 4-1 win.

Zack Greinke extended his winning streak to six games as he held his former team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, to only two runs over seven innings.

The White Sox showed some fight as they battled back from seven runs down to beat the Tigers in walk-off fashion in the 12th inning.

A man who threw a bottle at Ryan Howard after a game earlier this month has been cited, and may face a fine.

The Rangers have placed Yu Darvish on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder/neck tightness. MRI scans showed no structural damage. Darvish has only made three starts since returning from elbow surgery which sidelined him for over a year.

Ryan Braun has been linked with a move to the Giants, but a deal would be far from straight forward.
