MLB Scores: Marlins 5, Phillies 6

The Marlins lose two in a row as the Phillies win the game and the series

For the first five innings it was smooth sailing for the Marlins, but like they did last night the Phillies never lost their composure and came back to squeak by the Marlins 6-5. The loss dropped the Marlins to 16-14 good for fourth place in the NL East. The Marlins next welcome the Milwaukee Brewers for a three game series, first pitch is Monday at 7:10.

1st Inning

Top:

Justin Nicolino started the day and game off strong only allowing one hit in the inning. Odubel Herrera grounded out, Cesar Hernandez hit a fly ball, Maikel Franco got the only hit with a single, and the inning was over after Cameron Rupp grounded into a fielder's choice causing Franco to be out a second base.

Bottom:

A one two three inning for Aaron Nola as he got Ichiro Suzuki to ground out while Martin Prado and Christian Yelich both went down looking.

2nd Inning

Top:

Not wanting to be shown up Justin Nicolino did his thing getting Darin Ruf flied out, Freddy Galvis popped out, and Tyler Goeddel also flied out.

Bottom:

Justin Bour grounded out, Marcell Ozuna got on base with a single and advanced to second base off a throwing error by Aaron Nola during Derek Dietrich's at bat. Dietrich would eventually strike out, J.T. Realmuto grounded out for the third out.

3rd Inning

Top:

Another easy inning for Nicolino, Aaron Nola and Peter Bourjos both grounded out while Odubel Herrera struck out swinging.

Bottom:

The bats stayed asleep for the Marlins as Adeiny Hechvarria lined out, Justin Nicolino went down swinging, and Ichiro Suzuki grounded out.

4th Inning

Top:

Once again Nicolino only gave up one hit in the inning however Cesar Hernandez got things off the inauspicious  start with his triple. However Hernandez could not get home as Maikel Franco and Cameron Rupp grounded out and Darin Ruf flied out.

Bottom:

Finally some signs of life in Marlin's bats three straight singles by Martin Prado, Christian Yelich, and Justin Bour and Marlins are up 1-0. Marcell Ozuna struck out, but Derek Dietrich hit a ground rule double bringing home Yelich, Bour advanced to third base, and most importantly the score was now 2-0. The Marlins went up 3-0 after J.T. Realmuto grounded out but Bour was able cross home plate. Adeiny Hechvarria was intentionally walked during the at bat Nola threw three balls and a wild pitch. Lastly Justin Niclino was caught looking.

5th Inning

Top:

Freddy Galvis and Tyler Goddel  grounded out while Aaron Nola was walked. Peter Bourjos doubled and Nola advanced to third base however the inning was over after Odubel Herrera grounded out.

Bottom:

Ichiro Suzuki grounded out, Martin Prado doubled, Christian Yelich grounded out, and Justin Bour struck out looking.

6th Inning

Top:

It started to south for Marlins when Cesar Hernandez got on base with a bunt, Maikel Franco flied out, Cameron Rup singled advancing Hernandez to second base. Freddy Galvis hit a infield single bringing home Hernandez and Rupp scored while Ruf went to third base. Galvis advanced to second base after a throwing error by Hechavarria. Tyler Goedel grounded to Hechavarria but Ruf scored, and Galvis got to third base. Aaron Nola ended to run when he grounded out. The Phillies tied the game 3-3.

Bottom:

Looking to answer the Phillies Marcell Ozuna, Derek Dietrich, and J.T. Realmuto all grounded out.

7th Inning

Top:

Justin Nicolino's day was over as he pulled in favor of Nefi Ogando. Peter Bourjos grounded out, Odubel Herrera singled. Herrera stole second base and Cesar Hernandez grounded out  enabling Herrera to score and put the Phillies up 4-3. Maikel Franco grounded out.

Bottom:

Andrew Bailey relived Aaron Nola on the mound for the Phillies. Adeiny Hechavarria grounded out,  Chris Johnson tied game at four after his solo home run. Ichiro Suzuki and Martin Prado singled causing Neris to relive Bailey. Christian Yelich was walked loading the bases. Justin Bour hit a sacrifice fly bringing home Suzuki and put the Marlins back up 5-4. With runners on first and third base Marcell Ozuna flied out.

8th Inning

Top:

Thinking they had the game in their hand David Phelps came out of the bullpen to relive Nefi Ogando. Phelps struck out Cameron Rup, walked Ryan Howard, and had Freddy Galvis fly out. Then it all went south as Tyler Goedel doubled bringing home Emmanuel Burriss, who was a pinch runner for Howard. With score tied 5-5 Andres Blanco hit a double to bring up Goedel and put the Phillies up 6-5. The bleeding was over after Peter Bourjos flied out, but the damage was done.

Bottom:

The Marlins attempted another come back but it was stalled when Miguel Rojas flied out, J.T. Realmuto grounded out, and Adeiny Hechavarria struck out.

9th Inning

Top:

Jose Urena came in to close things out. He did his job getting Odubel Herrera and David Lough grounded out, and to Maikel Franco fly out.

Bottom:

Sadly the comeback proved as futile as Chris Johnson and Giancarlo Stanton both struck out. Stanton was pinch hitting for Ichiro Suzuki. Martin Prado gave a dash of hope with his infield single, but he was left stranded on first base as Christian Yelich flied out to end the game. The Philies win 6-5 capping another comeback win and taking the series from the Marlins.

Goat of the Game: David Phelps for the two runs, including the game losing, that he gave up in the eigth inning. Adeiny Hechvarria for his wild throw in the sixth inning helping the Phillies get back in the game.

Play of the Game: Chris Johnson's seventh inning pinch hit home run to tie the game at four.
