Heroes
Giancarlo Stanton (.364 WPA)
The game started out slowly for Stanton up at the dish as he grounded out in the first and then struck out looking in the third, but boy did he ever make up for it later. After drawing a walk in the sixth, Stanton launched a hellacious homerun into the stratosphere with Christian Yelich on board for the play (.334) that would ultimately seal a Marlins victory.
Peter Bourjos (.221 WPA)
The veteran right fielder reached base four times in this one. He drew a walk in the third inning and scored on Maikel Franco's double. Bourjos would double (.180) himself in the top of the fourth, a rope past the third base bag that bounced on the chalk, which plated two. He singled to center in the sixth off of Craig Breslow. Finally, Bourjos would again walk in the top of the eighth, but his night ended with a thud as J.T. Realmuto gunned him out stealing second base (-.049) to end the inning.
Christian Yelich (.177 WPA)
If not for Stanton's absolute bomb, we would be talking more about Yelich's own superb long ball (.161) with Martin Prado aboard in the bottom of the first inning that put the Marlins up 2-0. Yelich would also ground out twice but then single in the eighth to be on board for Stanton to unload on Hector Neris.
Zeroes
Hector Neris (-.328)
Someone's gotta give up those Stanton homeruns. Neris would secure three outs in the eighth inning but not before he gave up three hits including Stanton's smash and a walk.
Cesar Hernandez (-.258)
The Phillies second baseman had a rough night at the dish. He popped out in the first with a man on, then grounded into double plays in the third and fourth inning. His late two plate appearances saw him fly out and ground out to the pitcher, respectively.
Wei-Yin Chen (-.144)
Chen was knocked around a bit tonight, giving up four runs on eleven hits in five innings of work, issuing one walk and not striking out a soul. Fortunately for Chen, his teammates on the offensive side of the ball were able to bail him out.
