Heroes

Giancarlo Stanton (+0.200 WPA)

Stanton started the Marlins off well and hit one of the most important hits in the game by the end of the contest. He doubled in the second inning, reached third on a fly ball, and scored on a base knock by Marcell Ozuna with the infield drawn in. The Fish then got a two-out two-run bomb out of Stanton as part of their critical third inning that put the team up 4-0.

David Peralta (+0.161 WPA)

Peralta himself hit a big two-run home run to cut the deficit down to just one run at 4-3. Jose Fernandez had a strong outing early on but continued to labor through long pitch counts, so he struggled in the fifth inning and ended up providing a two-run homer to Peralta.

A.J. Ramos (+0.155 WPA) (not in lineup)

Ramos came in and recorded two strikeouts in route to a nice and easy ninth save for the 2016 season.

Zeroes

Rubby de la Rosa (-0.178 WPA)

Rubby de la Rosa went deeper than Fernandez by recording 5 2/3 innings, but he struck out four with two walks and eight hits allowed, including the two-run shot by Stanton.

Paul Goldschmidt (-0.167 WPA)

This was not the best game for Goldschmidt, who struck out twice and went hitless in four plate appearances. He has struggled in these first two games and did not look good against Fernandez tonight.

Yasmani Tomas (-0.164 WPA)

Tomas did not fare better, going 1-for-4 with two strikeouts as well. Tomas's only hit came in the sixth, when he singled and was caught trying to stretch it into a double to catalyze the Diamondbacks leading off.
