Heroes and Zeroes: Marlins 9, Rays 1

Throughout the 2016 season, I'm tracking the results of each game and each player to appear by using the Wins Probability Added (WPA) metric. The top three players are the "Heroes," and the bottom three are the "Zeroes."

Fernandez faced 28 batters over seven full innings, earning a 1.000 WHIP on six hits and a walk. He struck out 12 Rays and allowed one earned run, dropping his ERA to 2.82 and earning the win to push his record to 7-2 on the season. He also got 72 of his 111 pitches over the plate and registered a GameScore of 73.

Adeiny Hechavarria (MIA) +15.0%

Hechavarria led off for the Marlins and played shortstop. He struck out to start the game (-2.1%) then hit a two-run homer in the second inning (+17.3%) to give the Marlins a 3-0 lead. He grounded out to end the fourth (-0.4%), hit a two-out single in the seventh (+0.2%), and hit another single to lead off the ninth inning (0.0%).

Miguel Rojas (MIA) +12.8%

Rojas played second base and batted eighth for the Fish. He hit a one-out, RBI single to left in the second (+14.0%) to open the scoring, then scored on Hechavarria's round-tripper. He flew out to lead off the fourth (-0.7%), grounded out to lead off the seventh (-0.4%), and grounded into a double play for the first two outs of the eighth (-0.1%).
