Miami signed veteran lefty reliever Joe Beimel to a minor league deal Thursday morning, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro.
Beimel is expected to report to extended Spring Training.
Beimel, 39, had a fair amount of success pitching out of the Mariners bullpen between in 2014 and 2015. Over 92.1 combined innings, he pitched to a 3.12 ERA.
The Marlins are not known for pursuing lefty specialists, but left-handed batters hit only .226 against Beimel over that stint in Seattle.
Miami designate Craig Breslow for assignment Wednesday afternoon, which left the club without a left-handed relief option.
Mike Dunn has been on the disabled list since the beginning of the season.
Although he will likely need some appearances in minor league games, Beimel could be called upon relatively quickly.
Randy Choate was the last lefty-specialist the Marlins added to their bullpen. Lefties have hit .245 against Beimel over the course of his career.
