MLB Scores: Miami Marlins 6, Washington Nationals 4

Marlins get off the schnide and get their first win of the season

Even though mother nature attempted rain on their parade the Marlins powered trough a weather delay and spoiled the Nationals home opener. The Marlins are now 1-2. Game two of the series starts Saturday 4/9 at 4:05 PM ET.

1st Inning

Dee Gordon popped out to start the game the Marlins then reeled off four consecutive singles by Marcell Ozuna, Christian Yellch, Giancarlo Stanton, and Martin Pardo. Pardo's single brought home Ozuna. Justin Bour then proceeded to hit a pop out, however J.T. Realmuto got the Marlins back on track with a single bringing home Stanton. Sadly Adeiny Hechavarria grounded out and ended the inning.

Michael Taylor lined out the start the first home game of the season for the Nationals. Anthony Rendon hit a double and advanced to third after an Adam Conley wild pitch, who never seemed in command during his short start. Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman were both walked while Jayson Werth struck out. Daniel Murphy continuing his clutch streak from last year's post season hit a triple Rendon, Harper, and Zimmerman all scored tying the game at three. Conley managed to strike out Wilson Ramos and end the inning, but the damage was done.

2nd Inning

Unfortunately for Adam Conley as soon as he left the mound he was in the batters box where struck out.. Dee Gordon was walked, Marcell Ozuna grounded out, and Christian Yellch was also walked, while Giancarlo Stanton finished off the inning by grounding out.

After a lengthy weather delay Adam Conley was replaced by David Phelps for the Marlins and walked Danny Espinosa. Tanner Roark was caught out on a sacrifice bunt, however Espinosa advanced to second base. Phelps settled down though as he got Michael Taylor to fly out and Anthony Rendon struck out to get out of the inning.

3rd Inning

Martin Pardo lead off the inning with a single but Justin Bour grounded into a double play. J.T. Realmuto hit a single and during Adeiny Hechavarria's at bat stole base to advance to second base. Realmuto advanced to third off of an Wilson Ramos throwing error. Adeiny Hechavarria hit single and Realmuto scored putting the Marlins up 4-3, but the inning ended after David Phelps struck out.

The inning was a short one for the Nationals as Bryce Harper started off the inning with ground out, Ryan Zimmerman hit a double, but Jayson Werth and Daniel Murphy both struck out.

4th Inning

Wanting to keep the game short after the weather delay Dee Gordon grounded out, Marcell Ozuna struck out, Christian Yellch was walked, Giancarlo Stanton hit a single advancing Yellch to second, but the Marlins failed to capitalize with run a runner in scoring position as Martin Pardo grounded into the third out.

Wilson Ramos lead off for the Nationals and he grounded out, Danny Espinosa did not fair much better this inning as he lined out into center field. Dusty Baker decided to bring Stephen Drew to pinch hit for Tanner Roark and Drew proceeded to make his manager look smart when he lined out to center field to end the inning.

5th Inning

Tanner Roark's day was overas he was pulled in favor of Yusmeiro Petit. Liking the pitching change Justin Bour lead off the inning with a double. J.T. Realmuto flew out while Adeiny Hechavarria grounded out, however Bour advanced to third base. David Phelps sensing he needed some more run support decided to help himself by hitting a single and bringing home Bour putting the Marlins up 5-3. Dee Gordon, could not keep the trend going, as he lined out into center field.

Michael Taylor hit a fly ball, however Anthony Rendon hit single and advanced to second base off an throwing error by David Phelps. Bryce Harper was walked prompting Don Mattingly to come up to the mound and settle Phelps down. Mattingly's pep talk worked as Phelps managed to get out of the inning by getting Ryan Zimmerman to fly out, the Nationals actually challenged the call but the play was upheld, and Jayson Werth grounded out.

6th Inning

A quick one for the Marlins as Marcell Ozuna lined out to center field, Christian Yellch hit a fly ball also to center field, and Giancarlo Stanton popped out.

David Phelps day was over as Don Mattingly dug into the bullpen and pulled out Bryan Morris. Morris proceeded to walk two of three first batters he faced prompting another visit to the mound for Don Mattingly. Morris calmed down and he struck out Clint Robinson and Michael Taylor to get out of the inning.

7th Inning

Yusmeiro Petit was replaced by Matt Belisle and he got Martin Pardo to fly out. However Justin Bour doubled and while J.T. Realmuto grounded out Bour did advance to third base. Adeiny Hechavarria hit a double bringing home Bour and putting the Marlins up 6-3. Bryan Morris then struck out and the inning was over.

Anthony Rendon got the inning off the an ominous start by hitting a fly ball but Bryce Harper brightened up the day by hitting his second home run of the season making the score 6-4 with the Marlins still on top. After Ryan Zimmerman grounded out Don Mattingly when up to the mound again. After seeing Bryan Morris walk Jayson Werth Mattingly had seen enough and pulled Morris in favor of Craig Breslow. Breslow gave up a single to Daniel Murphy, advaning Jayson Werth to second base but got Wilson Ramos to ground into a force out.

8th Inning

Matt Belisle was replaced by Oliver Perez and got Dee Gordon and Marcell Ozuna to strike out. After walking Christian Yellch was walked Perez was pulled for Shawn Kelly who got Giancarlo Stanton to strike out.

Danny Espinosa started things off with a pop out, Chris Heisey was walked, but Michael Taylor grounded into force out getting Chris Heisey out at second base. The inning was over after Anthony Rendon struck out.

9th Inning

The Marlins had another short inning as Martin Pardo grounded out, Miguel Rojas popped out, and J.T. Realmuto grounded out as well.

Just wanting to got out of dodge and hold onto the lead A.J. Ramos, replaced Craig Breslow, came on for the save. Bryce Harper starting things off with fly out, but Ramos walked Ryan Zimmerman. However Ramos got Matt den Dekker to pop out and Daniel Murphy to strike out. Marlins win 6-4 getting their first win of the season and spoiling the home opener for the Nationals.

Post Game Notes

- The Marlins out hit the Nationals 13-6.

- The Marlins went 6-14 with runners in scoring position and left ten runners on base

- Even with the hour and a half weather delay the game only last three hours and thirty two minutes
