Marlins beat Cubs 9-6 to make 2nd World Series

The Florida Marlins are heading to the World Series. After falling 3-1 in the NLCS to the Chicago Cubs the Marlins came back to force a Game 7. The Marlins won the game 9-6 and they have booked a ticket to their second World Series in franchise history. Miguel Cabrera put the Marlins on the board when he smashed a three run home run in the first inning to give Florida the early 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Cubs catcher Damian Miller drove in Eric Karros on an RBI groundout to cut the Marlins lead to 3-1. Pitcher Kerry Wood then evened the score at 3 after he creamed a two run home run that drove in Alex Gonzalez. The score would remain tied till the 3rd inning when Moises Alou drove in Sammy Sosa on a two run home run to give the Cubs a 5-3 lead. The score would remain 5-3 until the fifth inning when the Marlins struck back. Catcher Ivan "pudge" Rodriguez drove in a run on an RBI double to cut the Chicago lead to 5-4. Miguel Cabrera then drove in another run on an RBI groundout to tie the game at 5. Derek Lee then hit an RBI single that drove in Rodriguez to give the Marlins the 6-5 lead. The Marlins wouldn’t look back as Luis Castillo drove in Jeff Conine on an RBI single to give Florida a 7-5 lead. In the top of the seventh, Alex Gonzalez drove in two on a two RBI double to give Florida the demanding 9-5 lead. Troy O’Leary hit a home run in bottom of the seventh but that did nothing as Florida won 9-6. After a night when Chicago jumped out to a huge lead but blew it due to an eight run inning by Florida in the eight, Chicago tried to shake the demons of last’s night’s loss but they couldn’t get the job done. The Marlins are 5-0 in postseason series in their young history. Brad Penny got the win tonight for the Marlins while Mark Redman had an inning of scoreless relief. "The Cubs were America's favorite. I think we're the darlings of the baseball world now," Marlins manager Jack McKeon said. After a dreadful 19-29 start in May the Marlins gave McKeon the manager role and now they are heading to the World Series. "Nobody expected us to be in the World Series," Rodriguez

said. The Marlins who made the Wild Card will play Boston or the New York Yankees in the World Series. The Marlins are heading to their second World Series in eleven years of existence, while the Cubs haven’t made the World Series since 1945. In a Game 7 home teams had won 12 out of the last 13 times, the Marlins became only the sixth team to overcome a 3-1 deficit. Ivan Rodriguez had an NLCS record 10 RBIS and was named the MVP of the series. The Marlins are heading to their second World Series to face the Yankees or the Red Sox.
