The Marlins are expected to sign veteran Chris Johnson on Tuesday, according to's Joe Frisaro.

Miami has reportedly been interested in adding a right-handed bat, and Johnson will give the Marlins a right-handed complement to Ichiro Suzuki on the bench.

Johnson can play first and third base and will likely give Justin Bour and Martin Prado days off regularly. A platoon situation at first base remains possible, with Johnson getting starting time against left-handed pitchers.

Johnson, 31, batted .255/.286/.337 to complement three home runs and 18 RBIs over 83 contests last season.

The Marlins have had an active start to the week after reportedly agreeing to a deal with free agent starter Wei-Yin Chen early Tuesday afternoon.

Since the end of the season, the Marlins have been hoping to add starting pitching and bench depth and appear to have done so to this point.
