Miami Marlins morning news: Martin Prado deemed club 'captain'

Prado has thrived even after a brief disabled list stint. Plus notes on Jose Fernandez and Kyle Barraclough.

Marlins News

Martin Prado has thrived throughout the course of 2015. According to's Steve Wilaj, Prado has played so well several Marlins, including Dee Gordon, have deemed him the team's captain.

"I think he's our team captain, honestly," Gordon said. "I think other guys in here feel the same way, just about the way he goes about his day -- day in and day out -- and we try to follow his lead. You watch the way he goes about it, and it's always professional."

Kyle Barraclough has pitched to an 0.56 ERA since joining the Marlins. Miami acquired him in the Steve Cishek deal with St. Louis.

Dee Gordon has brought something the Marlins' lineup has lacked in the past: speed.

Tom Koehler was dominant over eight innings against the Brewers on Wednesday night.

Jose Fernandez is set to take the mound against the Nationals on Saturday.

If Justin Bour wants to become Miami's starting first baseman, he will have to hit well against lefties.

When Jose Fernandez is on the mound, there are more people at Marlins Park. That much is quite clear.

The Marlins open the 2016 season at home against the Tigers.

Josh Hamilton is set to undergo left knee surgery.
