MLB Scores: Braves 7, Marlins 2

The downward trend continues as the Marlins fall to the Braves 7-2.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The Marlins dropped their third straight game to the Atlanta Braves by a tally of 7-2.

The Braves started their assault early as A.J. Pierzynski singled on a line drive to score Cameron Maybin in the bottom of the first. Then, in the top of the 2nd, Cole Gillespie doubled down the right field line scoring J.T. Realmuto. Gillespie eventually moved up to third on a throwing error by Jace Peterson. He would stay anchored at second.

The Braves picked up a run on a sacrifice fly, and then, in the top of the 3rd, Cole Gillespie was at in again, singling to score Casey McGehee and tie matters at two a piece. The scoring halted until the bottom of the fifth, when Nick Markakis singled scoring Cameron Maybin and propel the Braves to a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, the newly acquired Nick Swisher doubled scoring Markakis and A.J. Pierzynski and stretching the Braves advantage to 5-2.

Andrelton Simmons doubled home Adonis Garcia, and Johnny Gomes scored Simmons on an ensuing single stretching the Braves to their final margin, 7-2.

Mike Foltynewicz picks up his third win on the season, going 5.2 innings allowing five hits, and two earned runs. Ross Detwiler and Andrew Mckirahan picked up holds in the victory. For the Marlins, Tom Koehler goes six innings, allowing seven hits and allowing three earned runs.  Mike Dunn's struggles continue as he gave up three hits and two runs in the seventh. Brian Ellington, and Chris Naverson both saw time out of the bullpen.

The series finale is tomorrow from Turner Field as the Fish try to salvage at least one game out of the four game set at Turner Field.
