Miami Marlins morning news: Error, bullpen collapse leads to loss

Miami had a 3-1 lead in the seventh inning at Fenway Park before an error by Miguel Rojas loaded the bases. Xander Bogaerts promptly cleared them to complete the scoring at 4-3 in Boston's favor. Plus links on Dan Haren, Adeiny Hechavarria and the trade deadline.

Marlins News

Even though Carter Capps gave up the decisive blow to Xander Bogaerts, it was Steve Cishek (and Miguel Rojas) who loaded the bases with another shaky outing. What a difference a year has made for the side-armed reliever.

The bullpen collapse meant that Dan Haren's strong effort was put to waste as he wasn't a factor in the decision. The veteran threw his 12th quality start by allowing only one run over six innings, despite throwing 63 pitches through the first three frames.

Adeiny Hechavarria and A.J. Ramos both missed out on the All-Star Game in Cincinnati, and many feel that they have been snubbed.

The Marlins have some serious decisions to make in the next few weeks about who is staying in Miami, and who is leaving for new pastures. It is a worrying time for all supporters of a below .500 team, but what could the Marlins have up their sleeves?

The "best outfield in baseball" is currently in tatters with Giancarlo Stanton on the DL and Marcell Ozuna in AAA. The Fish were relying on their best asset to carry them to the playoffs, and as the top three outfielders have struggled, so has the team.

Around the League

Justin Upton showed Andrew McCutchen why he is a fellow All-Star last night by robbing him of a would be go-ahead homer.

Fourth time lucky? Albert Pujols has announced that he's competing in the Home Run Derby, still looking to win it after 12 years of trying.

After an 11 strikeout, two-hit performance, Johhny Cueto could be saying goodbye to the struggling Reds and he might be the best player available at the deadline.

The numbers say Alex Rodriguez is an All-Star; the fans did not. Was this unfair? Or was his off-field baggage a burden?
