MIAMI -- Miami made its second trade of the day just moments before the non-waiver trade deadline Friday afternoon. The Marlins announced they traded pitcher Sam Dyson to Texas in exchange for catcher Tomas Telis and left-handed reliever Cody Ege.
Dyson, 27, has posted a 3.68 ERA and 3.46 FIP over 44.0 innings with the Marlins this season. He has primarily been used as a reliever.
Telis, 24, posted a .291 average to complement five home runs and 25 RBIs over 70 games in Triple-A. He will join the Marlins.
Ege, 24, has posted a 1.00 ERA over 35 appearances with both Single and Double-A. He will report to Double-A Jacksonville.
Miami also traded starter Dan Haren to Chicago earlier in the day. The Marlins were reportedly seeking controllable starting pitching but did not add any major league arms before the 4:00 eastern non-waiver deadline. The club also dealt Steve Cishek to St. Louis last week.
