After being swept by Philadelphia to open the road trip and losing the first game in Arizona, the Marlins have put together three consecutive wins. Tom Koehler pitched well and a four-run sixth inning guided the Marlins to a 4-0 victory over the Padres on Thursday night.
Koehler was dominant through seven shutout innings, allowing three hits while walking four and striking out seven.
Miami scored all four of its runs in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs, Martin Prado and Christian Yelich singled. Prado scored from third on a wild pitch and a Justin Bour RBI single gave the Marlins a 2-0 lead. Casey McGehee subsequently singled and a J.T. Realmuto RBI single pushed Miami's lead to three. McGehee scored the final run of the night on a throwing error to make it a 4-0 contest.
Steve Cishek, whose name has been mentioned in trade rumors of late, tossed a scoreless inning before Mike Dunn pitched a scoreless ninth to secure the victory.
The Marlins take on the Padres in game two on Friday night. Dan Haren will be on the mound for Miami.
