MLB Scores: Marlins 3, Diamondbacks 0

An excellent effort by Marlins pitching gives Miami their first win of the second half

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

In a night where all eyes were on Marlins starter Mat Latos, he rose to the occasion and pitched a gem in Arizona.

This start may have been the last start for Latos in a Marlins uniform, and it was a good one. Fans and scouts alike saw seven innings of four-hit shutout ball with seven strikeouts from the righty. On the offensive side, Miami didn't necessarily come alive, but the bats got the job done in the Marlins' 3-0 over the Diamondbacks.

The scoring began in the fifth with Adeiny Hechavarria's two-out RBI single. Mike Morse blasted an opposite field solo homer in the seventh to extend the Marlins' lead to two. Finally, in the eighth, Christian Yelich knocked an RBI single to drive in Ichiro.

Carter Capps and A.J. Ramos helped close out the contest for Miami, breaking their four-game losing streak to begin the unofficial 'second half' of the season. Mat Latos grabbed his fourth win of the year, while his opponent, Jeremy Hellickson, took the loss. Capps added his ninth hold of the year and Ramos picked up his 15th save of 2015.
