Jose Fernandez is back. Miami's ace is set to take the mound against the Giants this afternoon after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Before going down, Fernandez posted a 2.44 ERA and 2.18 FIP over 51.2 innings pitched last season. In his dominant rookie campaign, Fernandez tossed 172.2 innings while posting a 2.19 ERA and 2.73 ERA.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal is among the first to report the Marlins were expected to place Fernandez on the disabled list with an unknown injury. Fernandez made a Friday night start in San Diego and struggled but it was determined he was plagued by stomach issues after possibly eating a bad meal.
Clark Spencer of The Miami Herald later reported Fernandez was set to undergo an MRI in Los Angeles.
ESPN's Jim Bowden eventually reported Fernandez had a tear in his right throwing elbow. The initial diagnosis was just a sprain.

Fernandez makes 25 throws from 30 feet at Marlins Park. It was the first time he threw a baseball since his start against the Padres. Fernandez plans to continue his throwing program heading into spring training.

Fernandez takes the mound for the first time since the season-ending Tommy John surgery. He walked one and struck out seven over three innings in an extended spring training game in Jupiter.

Fernandez takes the mound for the Class A Jupiter Hammeheads, tossing three innings while allowing five earned runs and striking out a pair. His velocity reached 99 mph although he also allowed eight hits.

In four and two third innings, Fernandez strikes out ten batters with Class A Jupiter.

Fernandez throws 90 pitches and seven innings of one-run, four-hit baseball in his fourth rehab outing.

In his final rehab start with Double-A Jacksonville, Fernandez allows four runs and six hits while walking two and striking out eight.
