Miami ended their three game win streak Saturday afternoon in Colorado with a 10-5 loss to the Rockies. David Phelps struggled early in the loss giving up four runs in the first inning. In addition to pitching woes, Giancarlo Stanton achieved the golden sombrero (four strikeouts). The Rockies had a season high seventeen hits in the delayed game.
Colorado jumped ahead early after a triple from Nolan Arenado, driving in Charlie Blackmon and DJ LaMahieu. Arenado later crossed home after a single from Wilin Rosario. In the next at bat Michael McKenry hit an RBI triple that allowed Rosario to score.
In the second inning Miami got a run after Adeiny Hechavarria hit an RBI single, driving in Christian Yelich from second.
The Rockies increased their lead in the third against Phelps with a home run from Wilin Rosario.
In the fourth Miami showed some life with a ground out form Jeff Mathis that allowed Marcell Ozuna to score from third. Score was 4-2.
In David Phelps last inning he gave up an RBI single to LaMahieu. Later Carlos Gonzalez hit a three run homerun. This was the last batter Phelps' faced in the game. Andre Rienzo immediately gave up a solo homerun to Rosario after coming out of the bullpen.
Rienzo pitched one and a third innings until Bryan Morris was brought in by Dan Jennings in the sixth inning. Morris' outing was cut short after sustaining a lower back strain.
Miami's comeback attempt in the ninth inning was not enough. Hech was able to score on a ground out from Ichiro, and later Jeff Baker hit an RBI single driving in Dee Gordon.
