Miami Marlins promote Cole Gillespie, Miguel Rojas

Both will give the Marlins right-handed depth off the bench.

In addition to placing Giancarlo Stanton on the 15-day disabled list with a broken bone in his hand, the Marlins announced they have optioned Donovan Solano to Triple-A New Orleans and recalled infielder Miguel Rojas. Cole Gillespie was selected in the corresponding Stanton move.

Solano, 27, served as a utility infielder for the Marlins but has struggled offensively of late. In 38 games, he posted a .153/.180/.220 batting line to complement five RBIs. Rojas will likely serve in the same capacity after batting .302/.345/.43 1 in Triple-A.

With Stanton out, Gillespie gives the Marlins outfield depth. Before being selected, he was batting .291/.356/.360 through 66 games in New Orleans.

Miami's offense has had difficulty with runners in scoring position and will likely benefit from the addition of a pair of right-handed bats. Rojas is in the lineup for Saturday afternoon's contest against the Dodgers and Gillespie could make a spot start over the next few days.
