Carlos Martinez got off to a slow start, but once he got his rhythm the Marlins were doomed Tuesday night in a 4-3 loss to the Cardinals.
Giancarlo Stanton began the game blasting an absolute moon shot, a two-run homer to put the Fish up 2-0. In the second inning, Adieny Hechavarria found a gap scoring Marcel Ozuna to get the Marlins off to a 3-0 advantage. Jose Urena went five innings, his worst inning being the fourth where he surrendered all three earned runs to tie the game.
For the Cardinals, a monster fourth inning yielded three runs, one coming via a Jason Heyward home run, and two coming off an Xavier Scruggs double. The Cardinals scored the decisive fourth run on a Mark Reynolds infield single.
Sam Dyson is blamed for the loss falling to 3-3 on the season while Carlos Martinez continues an impressive year floating at 8-3 on the season. Kevin Siegrist picked up his 13th hold on the year setting up and Trevor Rosenthal earned his 22nd save of the season. Steve Cishek, Mike Dunn and Carter Capps all saw work out of the Marlins' bullpen.
The Marlins drop their 42nd game on the season while the Cardinals continue to cruise posting an impressive 46-24 mark on the year.
The Cardinals and Marlins resume their series tomorrow night at 7:10 PM from Marlins Park.
