Justin Nicolino shined his career debut Saturday. The twenty- three year old pitched for seven innings, giving up no earned runs on only four hits. Nicolino was recalled this morning to take the place of injured Tom Koehler. Derek Dietrich also contributed to the shut out win with two homeruns.
Dietrich hit his first homerun of the night, which was a solo shot, in the fourth inning off former Marlin, Anthony DeSclafani. Later in the inning Justin Bour grounded out allowing Christian Yelich to score and Giancarlo Stanton to move over to second. The next batter, JT Realmuto, doubled, allowing Stanton to score.
Jumping ahead to the seventh inning, Dietrich hit a two run homerun of Manny Parra that scored Dee Gordon. After Nicolino was taken out In the seventh, Carter Capps pitched a hitless eighth. AJ Ramos pitched the ninth although it wasn't a save situation.
