Heroes And Zeroes: Giants 6, Marlins 0

San Francisco plated all three Heroes, and Jarred Cosart was the main culprit.

Lance Iversen-USA TODAY Sports

Heroes and Zeroes is a series where I take each players contribution to the final result (based on weighted plate appearances) of the ballgame. Each participant in the matchup is ranked from best to worst. The top three are "Heroes," the bottom three are "Zeroes." I used the win expectancy chart from www.fangraphs.com to rank these players.

Heroes

Casey McGehee (SFG) .232

McGehee, batting eighth for the Giants, hit a one-out bases loaded home run in the second inning. His grand slam was good for 23.6% of San Francisco's win. He singled to center to lead off the fourth (+0.9%), ended the fifth by grounding into a 6-4-3 double play (-0.9%), and grounded into a second double play with the bases loaded for the first two outs of the seventh (-0.3%).

Tim Lincecum (SFG) .203

Lincecum struck out eight Marlins and allowed three hits, three walks, and zero runs over his six innings pitched. He also drew a walk just after McGehee's slam (+0.8%) and sacrificed McGehee to second in the fourth (-0.3%).

Brandon Belt (SFG) .138

Belt batted fifth for San Francisco and doubled to left with nobody out in the second, moving Buster Posey to third (+11.6%). In the fourth, he singled to left with one out and one on (+1.0%). He collected his third hit of the night in the fifth, for the third time moving Posey up a base (+1.0%). He hit an infield single in the seventh, again moving Posey (+0.2%). He struck out swinging with runners on the corners to end the eighth (-0.0%).
