Heroes And Zeroes: Marlins 7, Giants 2

Miami topped the Giants, and Dan Haren was a big reason why.

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Heroes

Dan Haren (MIA) .442

Haren did everything for the Marlins last night. He allowed five hits while striking out three and walking nobody over his first six innings before allowing three hits for two earned runs in the seventh. He also helped himself at the plate, knocking in two with a two-run double with two outs in the second to open the scoring (+20.8%). He added a single leading off the fifth (+1.6%), eventually scoring on a GIancarlo Stanton sacrifice fly.

Dee Gordon (MIA) .057

For the eighth time this season, Gordon collected three hits. He grounded out to second to open the ballgame (-2.1%), hit a two out double to left to score Dan Haren with two out in the second (+8.6%) for the eventual game winning run, grounded out with one out and a man on in the fifth, singled to right to lead off the seventh (+0.6%), and led off the ninth with another single (+0.2%).

Giancarlo Stanton (MIA) .042

Stanton singled to left with one out and a man on in the first (+3.7%). He struck out swinging in the third (-1.1%), hit a sacrifice fly to score Dan Haren in the fifth (+1.5%), flew out to right for the second out of the seventh (-0.5%), and hit a one-out RBI single to left in the ninth, plating Dee Gordon (+0.4%).

Ichthyomancy

Attendance: 41,367

MiamiSkye won the attendance with a guess of 39,145 for two points. He called a Marlins win, the starters combining for 12+IP, and got the max three points on H&Z, calling Haren and Gordon Heroes and Hudson a Zero. That's seven points all told. And this despite the most random prop bet I've ever seen:

at least 2/3 of the numbers 1,4, and 5 are in the attendance

sternma called the winner, Stanton and Gordon Heroes and a QS for Haren. Four points.

Jigokusabre called the Marlins winners for a point, said Haren gives up 0 HR for one and a half, said the Marlins OF would collect at least three RBI (they had four) for a point, and called Stanton a Hero for 4.5 points.

Al-Kendall guessed Haren would be a Hero for one point.

Thomas Bennett called the winner, and got a fat 2.5-point prop bet by saying both pitchers would get a hit.

Gatorfan4life called the winner.

Marlon D called the winner, said Marlins 3-4-5 hitters would get at least five combined hits for 1.5 points, and called Hudson a Zero.

gustavopim called the Marlins win, got a nice 1.5 prop bet for saying "someone" gets his first home run of the year (would have been two if he had called Ozuna), called Haren for a QS, Stanton for a Hero, and Aoki + Hudson as Zeroes. 6.5 nice points.
