Marlins News

The Marlins began their ten-game road trip with a 6-4 loss to the Nationals last night.  The Nationals were powered by Yunel Escobar's five-hit performance and Ian Desmond's game-tying home run in the 8th inning.  Here is what Mike Redmond had to say about the Marlins loss, via Joe Frisaro of MLB.com:

"It was a tough night, no doubt," manager Mike Redmond said following Miami's first loss in four games against Washington this season. "We coughed up two leads late. You can't go on the road and cough up leads. That'll cost you."

For the Marlins, Justin Bour hit his first home-run in his second start of the season.

The Marlins received good news over the weekend with regard to their starting rotation.  Henderson Alvarez and Mat Latos each threw a bullpen session as they recover from their respective injuries.  Mat Latos experienced some soreness in his hamstring, but all indications are that he will make the start against the Nationals tonight.  Henderson Alvarez is making progress as well in his recovery from his elbow injury, and should return in the next couple of weeks.

Former Marlin Craig Counsell  was named as the new manager of the Milwaukee Brewers.  Counsell replaces Ron Roenicke, who was fired after the Brewers 7-18 start to the season.

Around The League

In Craig Counsell's first game as a manager, the Brewers rallied from a come from behind win against the Dodgers.

Rob Manfred has done a lot in his first 100 days as commissioner, and he's got even more plans ahead of him.

After running into the Green Monster, Hanley Ramirez is day-to-day with a shoulder sprain.

The Astros' ten-game winning streak came to end last night, as they fell to the Rangers 2-1.
