It was one of those days at Marlins Park. One of those days where Ryan Howard triples and Grady Sizemore manages two hits as the Marlins fall to the Phillies 6-2
The Marlins struck first on a Stanton sacrifice fly that scored Ichiro in the first. Moments before, Ichiro had stolen 2nd and 3rd and got into scoring position giving the Marlins their first run before they even picked up their first hit. Cameron Rupp singled in the top of the 5th to tie things up.
In the story of the day, the Solano brothers ( Jhonatan and Donovan ) playing in their first major league game as teammates, combined to score the Marlins' second run. Donovan singled and Jhonatan drove him in with a double for the Marlins' second run of the day in the fifth.
The turning point came in the top of the 6th inning, when the wheels fell off for starter Jarred Cosart. Cosart was impressive through his first five innings of work but, the 6th inning ended all good things Cosart had going for him. To leadoff the inning, he hit Darin Ruf with an inside pitch followed by Ryan Howard (Yes, that Ryan Howard) tripling to score Ruf from first. Immediately afterwards, Grady Sizemore singled to drive in Howard and take the lead and tally the eventual loss for Cosart. A.J. Ramos came in and ended the damage.
Reliever Bryan Morris entered the game in the top of the 7th and in a horrific stretch, after a Ben Revere single, a passed balled allowed him to advance to second. An error that allowed Chase Utley to reach first and advanced Revere to the third followed. Darin Ruf and Ryan Howard both tallied RBI singles in the inning to extend the Philly lead to 5-2.
Odubel Herrera came of the bench to deliver a RBI single and make a leaping catch in the outfield to rob Adieny Hechaverria of extra bases. In his first career start Phillies pitcher Severino Gonzalez picked up his first career victory and pitched well, only allowing two runs.
