Marlins News

Jose Fernandez's recovery from Tommy John surgery has gone smoothly so far, and his rehabilitation process will continue with a simulated game and an extended throwing session in the coming week. It is crucial that Fernandez clears these two obstacles as the rotation is in tatters at the moment. Michael Morse is also on the DL now with a finger ligament strain.

The Marlins must overcome the rotation situation, though, if they want to get back into the playoff race. The organization's pitching depth will be tested as Justin Nicolino may join fellow prospect Jose Urena in the big leagues in the coming days.

Jose Urena made his first career start against the Pirates on Tuesday night. Despite his strong numbers in Triple-A, he was charged with the loss in Pittsburgh. How long will he be in the rotation for after last night's performance?

Brad Hand will make the move from the bullpen to the rotation to start for the Fish in the final game against the Pirates. He will be looking to provide effective innings to help avoid the sweep.

The season is looking pretty bleak right now, but there are still a lot of games to be played. However, should Marlins supporters be rooting for the team to lose?

Around the League

Kris Bryant has started to seriously smash baseballs. He tried to copy Giancarlo Stanton's scoreboard trick last night at Wrigley Field.

The first All-Star ballot update showed that five Royals players would be starting for the AL if the votes stayed the same before the festivities in July. Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain, Mike Moustakas, Alcides Escobar and Salvador Perez are all leading the way at their respective positions.

The Atlanta Braves have acquired veteran third baseman Juan Uribe from the Dodgers in a multiplayer trade that sends Alberto Callaspo to LA. The Braves will also receive Chris Withrow, a pitcher recovering from Tommy John surgery who should return in the second half of the season.

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro has said that fans who criticize the rebuilding franchise lack knowledge of the game. He later apologized for his remarks.
