Dan Jennings is moving from the front office to the dugout. After firing Manager Mike Redmond on Sunday afternoon, the Marlins named General Manager Dan Jennings their next manager during a press conference on Monday afternoon at Marlins Park.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman was among the first to report the Marlins were prepared to name Jennings the next manager.

Jennings has served as the Marlins' General Manager since 2013 and is well-respected throughout the league. He helped the Marlins sign Giancarlo Stanton to a long-term contract in November and added several key pieces in Michael Morse, Mat Latos, Dee Gordon, Dan Haren, and Martin Prado.

Although he does not have any major league coaching experience, Jennings did serve as a high school coach at one point in his career.

Mike Goff, a current advance scout, will be Jennings' bench coach. Assistant General Manager Mike Berger will take Jennings' spot as General Manager, with President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill also contributing.
