Miami was hoping to open the season on a positive note, but the offense was unable to produce late and the Braves topped the Marlins 2-0 on Wednesday night, sweeping the first three game set of the season.
Freddie Freeman opened the seventh with a single against Tom Koehler, and A.J. Pierzynski hit a two-run home run to right center field to give Atlanta a two run lead that would not be lost.
Koehler was efficient in his first start of 2015, tossing six innings while allowing five hits and two runs to complement three walks and four strikeouts.
The Marlins were unable to rally against Braves starter Shelby Miller, who tossed five shutout innings while striking out four. The Marlins' best chance to score came in the third, when they loaded the bases with two outs before Miller got Michael Morse to ground out to end the frame.
Giancarlo Stanton made a diving catch to rob Freeman of a hit in the fourth, and Christian Yelich posted his first assist of the season.
A.J. Ramos, Bryan Morris, and Mike Dunn each tossed an inning of scoreless relief, however the Braves' bullpen, which tossed 11 consecutive scoreless innings against the Marlins, kept Miami off the board. Jason Grilli held on to Atlanta's two run lead and earned his second save of the series.
