Mat Latos struggled and the Braves rallied early. The Marlins have dropped consecutive games to open the season.

Mat Latos posted the shortest start of his career and Atlanta scored seven runs in the top of the first to take a lead that would not be lost in a 12-2 victory over the Marlins on Tuesday night at Marlins Park.

Atlanta got off to a fast start against Latos in the first, scoring seven runs and subsequently knocking him out of the game. Nick Markakis opened the scoring with an RBI single, and Freddie Freeman and Christian Bethancourt followed with RBI doubles to give the Braves a 3-0 edge. Chris Johnson added an RBI double and Andrelton Simmons and Eric Young Jr. both singled home runs to make it a 7-0 contest.

Latos was pulled after recording just two outs and Brad Hand got Markakis to ground out to end the frame.

Alex Wood was able to keep the Marlins off the board until the fifth, when the squad scored a pair of runs. Wood walked Adeiny Hechavarria with one out, and Hechavarria scored on a Donovan Solano pinch-hit triple. Dee Gordon added an RBI groundout to get the Marlins within five runs.

Hand was efficient in 4.1 innings, walking and striking out one, however the Braves were able to add to their lead against Sam Dyson in the seventh, as Freeman posted his second RBI double of the night.

The Marlins were unable to rally against the Braves' bullpen, and Steve Cishek allowed four runs in the top of the ninth. Bryan Morris tossed an inning in relief.

Miami will look to win game three of the series on Wednesday night at Marlins Park.
